5th FIS SKI WORLD CUP 2017 TELEMARK – 1. day

Bastien Dayer (SUI) and Beatrice Zimmermann (SUI) took first place on today’s FIS Telemark World Cup’s first day in Hintertux. After the two race runs the swiss-born Bastien Dayer and swiss-born Beatrice Zimmermann successfully prevailed over their competitors and so managed to be standing on the victory podium.

On today’s first day of the FIS Telemark World Cup opening in Hintertux, the 30-year old swiss-born Dayer managed to dominate the men’s sprinting race. The ladies went down first the »Gefrorene Wand«, followed by the men. The start was at 2.795 m and the finish at 2.660 m so the vertical drop was 135 m – quite typical for a sprint race.

Dayer won with a total time of 1:29,12 minutes ahead of his swiss colleague Stefan Matter (1:30,59) and Trym Nygaard Loeken (1:32,40) from Norway. »It was an awesome race today! I am super happy that I ended up first as you never know how the conditions will be at the first day – now I am very much looking forward to the next days here in Hintertux as well as to the upcoming season in general«, said the 30-year old Dayer.

In the women’s race Beatrice Zimmermann from Switzerland took first place with a total time of 1:42,96 ahead of the Germans Johanna Holzmann (1:43,42) as well as Jasmin Taylor who took third place with a time of 1:44,42.

The conditions at the Hintertuxer Glacier were once again amazing: sunny, -19 degree, great snow with plenty of spectators. The race continues tomorrow at 9.30 am.
